The Ultimate Cure For Procrastination

Just Fucking Do It.

There is no going around it. If you have to do something now – it is most likely you’ll still have to do it once you are done with your self imposed distractions. That same task will still be sitting there with a grin on its face, staring at you when you come back to your desk. The solution is to tackle it right now. You don’t feel like doing it? – So what. Make that mind numbingly boring chore disappear by taking it head on – without thinking. Once you start to get into it – you’ll forget how unpleasant it made you feel and once you look at the clock again – you’re almost done.
Starting is the hard part, once you deal with it and make the first steps, you’re half way home.

It is amazing how obvious the answer to this is, but I have just in the last few months realized how bad I was about procrastinating and started trying to force myself past that shitty “I can do this later” feeling. I am actually still strugling with it and still catching myself trying to find excuses for not doing something that could take me 30 minutes to just do.
Well said my friend, well said.

These days I am dealing with my share of procrastination. It sucks. :(
Procrastination poster is great! I definitely need to make me one and put it above my desk – I’ll do it next week. ;)

I think it’s one of those things you have to keep reminding yourself about every now and then. GTD principles help here enormously and it really requires you to have at least some amount of organization in your day, otherwise you just fall back again into the illusion you’re getting stuff done, but in reality you’re just putting it off and dodging bullets.
