Already, when we quote our clients we note that by “supporting IE6” we mean supporting it to the point where the site is usable, but we do not do full support for that browser by default. It is noted on our services page as well.

Now—when industry leaders and companies (like Google, Apple and 37 Signals) are proposing the same thing and acting on it—it is clear that things are really starting to pick up steam and it is only a matter of time before that browser becomes massively ignored by the Web workers and falls into oblivion (where it belongs).

1. I fully agree with you, plus I’m very happy to say that we will also be doing the exact same – starting 1st April this year! Yahoooo!

   To save time spent on ie6 issues, we’ve started using the ie-7 script from Google with good results so far. The less time we spend on ie6 = more time spent on better site design, function and user experience!

2. Well I say it’s about time! I stopped supporting IE6 quite some time ago, it’s just too big of a headache.

   if only we could get all the councils, schools, organisations etc in the UK to actually upgrade to IE7, then it would be fine..
   unfortunately thats where the real battle is…
