Announcing Plakatt.com

We are proud to announce a new Superawesome venture Plakatt — a platform for promoting and sharing events.

How This Came to Be

Plakatt was started a year ago by Darko Fabijan and Marko Anastasov; two brilliant Ruby programmers from our home town of Novi Sad. Once they got to a certain point in the development when they thought that Plakatt is ready for some real-time user testing, they released it to the wild wild web. At the same time, they started looking for a design firm to help them out with the identity and obviously interface design. That’s when they knocked on our door, and the minute we saw what they had—we knew it was something good. We just really liked the whole idea and the concept of what they started to build, and we said we want in! Luckily, they were kind enough to accept, and we became partners.

On another note, it was really a pleasant surprise to see there are people with such good grasp on the modern Web, as Marko and Darko have, and that tells us this is going to be a good ride.

The Concept

Certainly this is not a new concept; let’s just get that straight. You’ve got your Upcomings, Facebook events, Eventfuls, etc., but we feel we can bring something to the table that people will find useful and embrace. First of all we are starting regional targeting the ex-Yugoslav region (the Balkans). Secondly—we think there is room for improvement in any of event publishing and sharing apps currently available on the market. Not that we think the current offerings are bad or anything, just that we would do it differently. And that’s what produces good results right?—solving your own problems, making stuff you would use yourself in the first place.

The Plan

The plan now with Plakatt is to completely relaunch the service as v1.0 beta with a complete set of features which we determined that will make this version. Of course, our main job along with developing new features with Marko and Darko will be the design of the site.

The Results

With all this said, we are targeting December 31st 2008 as a worst case deadline to go live with the new version of the site. There’s a lot to do, and time is scarce, especially considering we are doing this parallel to our clients’ projects, but we are optimistic and certain we’ll make it. Meanwhile make sure to check out the Plakatt blog (blog feed) and grab the event feed in order to stay in the loop. Also in case you’re attending BizBuzz conference in Niš (Sebia) make sure to look Marko and Darko up, they will be representing and also carrying some Plakatt schwag.
