A Call to Indie Artists and Illustrators

Illustrations you see all over this site are a very important part of it’s visual identity. We love them, and we want more of them. Are you an artist or an illustrator? What would you say if you stumbled upon an opportunity to get your art out there on the internets? Interested? – read on.

We understand that the illustrations on this site make a large chunk of it’s identity and it definitely made it stand out in the sea of other sites. Here is a list of just some of the respectable sites that have recognized the design and featured it in their posts or galleries:

  1. Web Designer Wall – Best of CSS Design 2007
  2. CSS Beauty for October 2007
  3. Design Reviver – 38 Unmistakable Vector Illustrated Characters
  4. Web Designer Wall – Vector Illustration Trend
  5. Design Shrine – Best of CSS Design 2007
  6. Website Design Awards
  7. Adii – My 53 Top Blog Designs of 2007

So Here’s the Deal…

We have decided to bump it up a notch and have some fun along the way. Check this out – We’d like to get some indie artists and illustrators and give them a chance to illustrate the pages of this site with their work and show off their skills.

As you can see – there are 5 pages that contain illustrations at the moment:

  1. Home
  2. About
  3. Services
  4. Contact
  5. Questionnaire

The Rules

We want to keep it really simple actually, here they are:

  • The layout of the pages can not be changed.
  • Your illustration can be as wide as you want, but keep in mind the height of the pages.
  • You can overlap three images one over the other in case you need some elements to act as a pattern or something (using the html, body and div#mainContent elements – div#mainContent being 960px wide).
  • The text on the about page (“Here at Superawesome we are working towards…”) has to be present in your illustration.
  • The slogan in the masthead of the home page must be incorporated into your illustration, including the “See work” link.

Now all you need to do is send us a link to your portfolio (samples, scanned drawings and scribbles in the email are fine as well) to the following address and make sure the subject line reads “Sprawsm.com Illustrations Review” and you’re golden.

As compensation, the artists will get a page on this site, with their info, it will also contain screenshots of the work they did for sprawsm.com, and if they want, some other samples of their work. It will be all a part of an agreement – if the artist has some other idea how to use that page, we’ll do that. Also, that page will be linked from the footer for the entire time the artist’s work is on display, once it is replaced by another one, it will be accessible from the archive.

Please note – independent artists/illustrators come first as this whole thing is geared towards getting them some recognition. Additionally I’d like to add that all of the illustrations will remain under the artist’s copyright and will not be used anywhere else but on this site without his or hers approval.

That’s it – send us some awesomeness!

Tired of Styling Forms Over and Over Again? Why Not Give Uni-Form a Try?

Uni-Form is our own take on what we call a “framework for HTML forms”. It comes with two predefined form layouts you trigger via CSS classes, and also xHTML snippets of form elements called “units”.
